Challenge

Frogmore Paper Mill is a historic working paper mill dating back to the Domesday Book and is the site of the world’s first ever paper machine. It also operates as a visitor centre for education and the local community and is managed through a charitable trust. The trust is entirely self-funding and not-for-profit, with all funds raised re-invested in the repair and maintenance of the mill. With its grand scale and range of victorian machinery and buildings, Frogmore Mill is an obvious choice as a film location for period drama but, although located just outside the M25, it is slightly further away from London than productions usually travel so relatively unknown. The trustees needed help spreading the word to the production world and securing filming interest.

Solution

Location Collective began representing Frogmore Paper Mill for filming exclusively in early 2016. We began marketing to our large database of production contacts to raise Frogmore’s profile and quickly secured a £34k hire from a feature film called Harwood, generating an immediate cash injection to support the maintenance of the mill. Since then we have generated £72k in total filming revenue with a number of feature films, documentaries and photoshoots all choosing Frogmore Paper Mill as their preferred location. Frogmore’s attitude to customer service for film productions is: ‘The answer is yes, now what is the question?’ and that has certainly helped its reputation as a great place to film.

The team at Location Collective have always shown a keen interest in what we do and in helping raise funds to support our cause. Hires are carefully chosen to fit around our activities as a working manufacturing site and are handled with professionalism and care. We really enjoy getting the interest from film productions and seeing them in action on site, and the funds generated through the connection with Location Collective are extremely valuable to us!
