Location of the Month Dec 09: Chalfont Campus

Chalfont Campus

Lying dormant just north of the M25 / M40 junction is the sprawling Chalfont University Campus. The now peaceful ambience of this 200 year old country estate is centred around a recently restored 18th Century mansion. The area of the campus extends over the Newland Park Grounds and has a HUGE AND VARIED selection of institutional, educational and residential buildings and backdrops. These same buildings also possesses a great rage of ‘doubles’ potential which are all available for any type of production. Chalfont Campus’ position, facilities and size make also make it a great filming location and a cost-effective production base.

Main Building

The architectural focus of Chalfont Campus is the 18th Century manor house with 20th century amendments. It has contrasting interiors that bear the distinct ambience of a mock baronial hall with its exquisite wood panelled rooms – perfect for boardrooms, grand staircases, solid stonewalls and character fire places.
It also has magnificent walled Victorian garden, in addition to large commercial meeting rooms and administrative offices that have long corridors all providing an interestingly contradictory institutional space.

Production Base with Unit Base Parking

A large gym (approximately 4,500sqft with double height clearance) provides an ideal unobstructed space for set-build. The now vacant library and the student shop area with their double height ceiling also offer themselves as additional set build alternatives.

There is an abundance of office space as well as areas for storage. Parking is a dream with over 500 bays available.

Doubles

The ‘doubles’ potential on this site is extensive. There is a treasure trove of alternatives including but not restricted to: police stations, hospitals, offices, bars, clubs, retail outlets and an old people’s homes. With both interiors and exteriors this site really does offer a massive variety of options.

Exteriors

Perfectly complimenting the boundless location possibilities within this campus are the broad range of external spaces found within its 240 acres footprint. From the institutional sterility of the student accommodation, the vast network of private roads & paved walkways Chalfont Campus also has a wide range of sports courts & pitches - tennis, rugby, football & netball as well as a floodlit Astroturf pitch.

These sumptuous surrounding grounds of the manor house, also have idyllic gardens and back onto stretching woodlands and farmland.
